We had about 20 dogs here for the event - all types, ages and sizes. We had a fantastic day with 9 adoptions.

This is my current foater dog Raine - she is a Chihuahua mix. She needs to get to know someone for a little while before she is super trusting - but it only took us 1 day and she was my little shadow. She sleeps with us at night and loves to go for walks. One thing she really loves is other dogs - I would love to see her go into a home with a dog that loves to play. She could chase and play all day!

]]>Rescue work is near and dear to my heart. There are so many pets that need homes. I dream of a world where pets are spayed and neutered so there are fewer unwanted pets! It is with this in mind that I go with Amy from Salty Dog Rescue tomorrow to pick up dogs from a shelter in Yakima. These dogs would have an uncertain future and most liekly owuld be euthanized due to lack of adoptions in that area and a high influx of dogs coming in to the shelter. This is a hard thing for me - knowing that we are taking some to a new life but leaving others behind for an uncertain future.
We are always looking for foster homes. Tempoary places that we can place these dogs in until they have a forever home. It is only with foster homes that we can pull dogs out of a shelter and give them a chance to have a life.

Yesterday we just received the newest foods to enter the Acana line. These three new foods follow Champion Pet Foods Biologically Appropriate foundation as well as what they call "Nature's Rules"

4. Fresh fruits and vegetables
5. Botanicals to cleanse the body
The three new foods are yummy fresh protein sources with steel cut locally grown oats. Oats are a healthy carbohydrate and lower on the glycemic index than rice, corn and sweet potato.
Chicken and Burbank Potato - loaded with free-run Cobb chicken, Burbank potatoes and wild-caught flounder.
Lamb and Okanagan Apple - this Limited Ingredient Formula includes ranch raised New Zealand lamb and 10% Red Delicious Apples
Duck and Bartlett Pear - this Limited Ingredient Formula includes 50% duck as a single source of protein and fresh Bartlett Pears from British Colombia's Okanagan Valley.
We are excited about these foods and even though we feed a raw meat based diet at our home - my pups have been enjoying the Duck and Bartlett Pear food the last couple days.

There is a new trend in the raw food industry. Many brands are jumping onto High Pressure Processing. High Pressure Processing (HPP) is a method of food processing where food is subjected to elevated pressures, with or without the addition of heat, to achieve microbial inactivation or to alter the food attributes in order to achieve consumer-desired qualities. Basically this process is used to kill bad bacteria that may or may not be present in these foods. Basically this is pasteurization. We believe that pasteurization changes the food and it is not truly raw at this point.
We support raw food companies that use high quality meats processed in a way that ensures food safety. We want our pets to eat the foods nature intended. This is why we are adding Nature's Logic to our raw food freezer. They also do not use any synthetic vitamins and minerals - all of their ingredients are from nature.
