Be Flea Free!!
Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 02:54PM It pains me to say that flea season is here. I have had numerous people call and come in looking for flea products the lat couple of weeks. This is a much earlier than usual season. With a warmer than usual winter and this rainy humid weather fleas seem to be everywhere looking to your pet for a new home!
Let us help you get a handle on this situation today! We have some great products that can eliminate fleas naturally on your pets and in your home.
Does your pet have fleas already? Then we recommend a bath first. Our favorite flea shampoo comes from Mad About Organics a small company based in Eugene, Oregon. They have cat and dog versions. Here is what they have to say about their shampoos.
"Unlike many harsh chemical flea and tick products on the market that are designed to offer flea control for pets, all of our products are extraordinarily mild, hypo allergenic, and free of petroleum or animal by-products. There are no chemical detergents, synthetic fragrances or added colors to any of our formulas. They are safe for animals as young as 4 weeks of age and can also be used on pregnant females."
8oz Dog Flea and Tick Shampoo $9.50
4oz Cat Flea and Tick Shampoo $7.00

Never bathed a pet with fleas? We have great tips to help you make it go smooth and eliminate all those pesky fleas.
Next step is treatment. This will kill any flea the shampoo did not get and any fleas hopping aboard later. We again love the Mad About Organics Flea and Tick Topical Treatment. Essential oils suspended in an olive oil base. Easy and safe to apply. You can use this product weekly or more frequently if experiencing a really rough infestation. This product is spread around the pets body. It smells lovely and works great. It comes in options for cats and dogs, retailing about $17.00.
Another option for treatment is Diatomaceous Earth. What the heck is that you ask??
Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder composed of the crushed fossilized exoskeletons of microscopic diatoms. This is a remarkable substance that is a desiccant--it actually dries out the waxy outer layer of fleas, causing them death by dehydration.
Diatomaceous earth is an environmentally friendly alternative to toxic commercial flea and tick treatments.
In tests performed by the USDA, as well as a number of consumer trials, diatomaceous earth has proven to be an effective non-chemical insect control.
We carry Lumino Diatomaceous Earth for pets. This fine powder is sprinkled into your pets fur and massaged in to effectively kill pests. It has no smell and is organic and human grade. Which means so safe for you - you can actually eat it if you want to.

You can also use diatomaceous earth with other topical flea products. A double whammy.
Diatomaceous earth also works as a natural wormer when fed to our pets. Last time Mischa got tapeworms we used diatomaceous earth with great results.
If you have chickens, Lumino makes a great Dusting Bath for Poultry. We can special order it for you.
Lumino Dusting Bath Powder is a blend of specially selected minerals, clay, washed smooth sand, glacial rock dust, oyster shell powder, and crushed alfalfa meal. This fine, loose mix is easily fluffed under feathers.
Using this powder encourages preening. Preening releases new oils that spread over the feathers to keep them in good condition and waterproof.
At this point you have a great smelling pet that is flea free. Yeah!
For those of you heading outdoors and worried about fleas and ticks we have several products that repel these pests naturally. In fact the Mad About Organics Insect Relief Spray is so gentle and safe you can use it on yourself. So before heading out camping, hiking and dog parking stop in for an easy step to defend your pet from these bugs!
Stop in soon and let us show you our great products and how you can make it through the fleas season without using any harsh chemical products on your pet!
