puppy mills #2
Monday, February 15, 2010 at 06:20PM Every adoption event we host has at least one dog from a puppy mill. These are often the discarded breeding females no longer useful to the mill. If rescue groups did not take them they often would be starved, drowned or beaten to death - as proper euthanasia is to expensive for these dogs deemed worthless.
I have always been passionate about animals but I had no idea I would end up in the pet industry. Only now am I truly understanding what a difference I can make by educating people on the pet industry and giving my heart and time to the animals in need.
I try not to use the word hate - it is so strong and negative. A powerful word. But I hate puppy mills. I have said it before and I won't ever be happy until this stops. It is sick and wrong.

Here is a video that explains more about where pet store and website puppies come from.

I know there is a craze - everyone wants a hypo-allergenic breed - a designer dog. What does that really mean anyway. All these oodles, and doodles mixed with poodles it is creating a great market for puppy mills. No real breeder mixes 2 breeds of dogs together like that. Try a real poodle or havanese if you want a non shedding breed.
If you want a pure breed dog - find a local breeder and see where your pups are coming from. You should be able to see the parents and the kennel. I know my breeder very well - we exchange Christmas cards. SHe breeds for the betterment of the breed - selective and thoughtful. Making sure she maintains clean genetic lines.
Or adopt - so many pets are discarded and are awaiting their new forever homes. May take a little while to find the perfect dog - but so worth it in the end.
